(AP) -- Despite the buzz created nationally by the presidential race, Kansas party and elected officials say efforts to generate a strong election turnout on Tuesday are muted by a lack of statewide races. Kansas has no statewide races on the ballot. Typically, even in years where the governor is on the ticket, there is one U.S. Senate race campaign to push voters to the polls. Not so in 2012. That has prompted officials with the Kansas Republican Party and Secretary of State Kris Kobach to say that even though there is an absence of broader races there are some pockets across Kansas where there are tight legislative races to generate interest in voting beyond just for President. ===================================================================Body of Missing Fort Hays State Student Found HAYS, Kan. (AP) -- The body of a 25-year-old Fort Hays State University student who had been missing since Wednesday has been found. A search team found the body of Ivone Martinez Saturday morning near Hays. KSN reports police believe there is no evidence of foul play in her death. Martinez was last seen Wednesday afternoon on the Fort Hays State campus. Hays police are asking anyone with information about what happened to Martinez to call them.===================================================================KU: Time Will Tell if Strategic Plan is SuccessfulLAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) -- University of Kansas Provost Jeff Vitter says it will be years before the school knows if its new strategic plan is working. The plan, called "Bold Aspirations," was unveiled last fall and is aimed at improving the school's standing among public research universities. One of Kansas' first objectives is to create a new core curriculum for undergraduates to be in place in the fall of 2013. A committee is determining the exact course requirements. But the plan is to reduce the number of general-education requirements, which will target six specific educational goals. Those goals are "critical thinking and quantitative literacy," "communication," "breadth of knowledge," "culture and diversity," "social responsibility and ethics," and "integration and creativity."
