But the committee chose to preserve four tax credits the governor wanted to eliminate, including a credit for people who invest in Kansas companies. The legislation would have capped state government spending growth at 2 percent per year. The full Senate will now consider the amended tax plan.

(AP) _ The president of the anti-abortion group Operation Rescue has endorsed Texas Congressman Ron Paul for the Republican presidential nomination. Troy Newman's endorsement was released yesterday (THU) by Paul's campaign. The Kansas GOP presidential caucuses will take place tomorrow (SAT). Operation Rescue has its headquarters in Wichita. Many abortion opponents, including leaders of the anti-abortion group Kansans for Life, are supporting former Pennsylvania U.S. Senator Rick Santorum in the presidential race. But in a recorded message distributed by the Paul campaign, Newman said Paul will fight to ban abortion and is the only candidate truly committed to defending the U.S. Constitution. Dr. Paul is scheduled to make appearances today (FRI) in Topeka, Wichita and Lawrence.

The company Siemens will lay off around 150 workers at their facility in Hutchinson. The plant builds parts for wind turbines. The company also says more natural gas power plants and the economy have slowed sales. The Hutchinson plant builds nacelles, the part of a wind turbine containing the generator and other components. About half the employees in Hutch will lose their jobs. Siemens is laying off more than 600 people nationwide.
