Classical music has always had a special place at KPR, and starting July 7, an exciting new classical music program will begin. This new program, called Classics Live, will be hosted by Darrell Brogdon, host of Retro Cocktail Hour, and produced by Cordelia Brown, KPR's evening classical music host. Classics Live will feature recordings of solo artists and group performances. These performances were recorded at several local locations, including the KPR live studio, Park University, the Ruel Joyce Recital Series at Johnson County Community College, and at the Lied Center Pavilion at The University of Kansas.
Classics Live will be broadcast Thursdays at 7 p.m. and will be re-broadcast Sundays at 8 p.m. The first month of the performance schedule is as follows:

Les Trois Etoiles, oboe, violin and piano - July 7, 10
Played by Margaret Marco, Veronique Mathieu, and Ellen Sommer. This delightful combination of instruments resonates with a Handel Suite of Airs and Dances, the Flower Duet from Delibes’ Lakme, an Autumn Soliloquy by Jim Barnes, and more. Margaret, Veronique and Ellen live in the Lawrence area where they are on the music faculty of the University of Kansas. A Ruel Joyce Recital from September 2015.
Reena Natenberg, piano - July 14, 17
Pianist Reena Natenberg was born in Montreal. She studied at McGill Conservatory of Music at Tel-Aviv University before graduating from the New England Conservatory of Music and the University of Montreal. She now lives in Kansas City where she’s still in demand as a recitalist and teacher. Her Classics Live concert features Beethoven’s 4th Piano Sonata, three of the Years of Pilgrimage pieces by Franz Liszt, and a contemporary Denis Gougeon piece called Piano Sun from his Six Solitary Themes. Ben Sayevich, violin and Daniel Veis, cello - July 21, 24
Two music professors from Park University perform Ravel’s Sonata for Violin and Cello. They are joined by pianist Lolita Lisovskaya-Sayevich, pianist, and violist Anna Sorokina for Mozart’s Piano Quartet in E flat. Recorded at Park University’s International Center for Music in February 2016.
ZOCO Duo - July 28, 31
Meet Jacob Cordover and Laura Karney, who bring together the diverse elements of the oboe and the guitar. The Spanish derivative of the Arabic work for souk or bazaar, a zoco was a place where a myriad of sights, sounds and smells of the exotic mingled. Hear an hour of chamber music for reed instrument and guitar, recorded in April of 2016 in the KPR Live Music Studio before a live audience.
