Two Topeka men are in custody in connection with the shooting this month in downtown Lawrence that left three people dead and two injured. Federal and local law enforcement arrested Ahmad Rayton and Dominique McMillon Monday in Topeka.
Rayton is charged with attempted second-degree murder and being a felon in possession of a weapon. McMillon is charged with aggravated assault and battery.
None of the charges stem from the three deaths. The attempted murder charge is related to one of the shooting victims. The assault and battery charges are related to another victim, but that victim was not shot.
Lawrence Police Captain Adam Heffley says the investigation continues.
“There are still subjects we are looking to interview in this case. We do anticipate further arrests, but for investigative reasons we’re unable to provide a number or a timeline for when they might occur,” Heffley said.
The two men charged made their initial court appearances Tuesday.
Heffley says they’ve followed around 200 leads during the investigation. He asks that anyone with information about the shooting come forward.
