Kansas Board of Regents Approves Tuition Hikes

Tuition at the six state universities in Kansas will go up this fall. The Board of Regents agreed to hikes ranging from 2.5 to 2.9 percent. Kansas State sought a 3 percent increase, but lowered its request when it became clear the Regents were critical of the idea. Bill Feuerborn, a Regent and former state lawmaker, had hoped to keep tuition flatter.

The universities lost 4 percent of their state funding last year. The Legislature has agreed to restore a quarter of that in 2018 and 2019. University leaders say this still leaves them with less, while costs like utilities and health insurance rise.
