DNA May Link Kansas Deputy Rape Suspects to Other Attacks

Investigators in the Johnson County's District Attorney's office say they believe they now have evidence that the two Missouri men charged in the kidnapping and rape of a sheriff's deputy may have attacked other women. Investigators are looking into a connection between the two suspects and another unsolved rape reported in February in Independence, Missouri. Police are comparing DNA samples from the deputy's case with that from the victim in the previous attack. Police say William Luth and Brady Newman-Caddell abducted  the deputy in a parking lot at the County Detention Center in Olathe last Friday night. Employees regularly use that parking lot and Johnson County Sheriff Frank Denning there may need to be enhanced security measures outside the jail complex. Denning says the county has already made some recent improvements in external security.


The two suspects are in the Johnson County Jail  with a $1 million bond each on charges of rape and kidnapping. Their next court appearance is set for next Thursday.
