StoryCorps: Legacy of Brown v. Board in Topeka (Joyce Revely & Eric McHenry)
Last year marked the 60th anniversary of "Brown v. Board," the landmark Supreme Court decision declaring segregated schools unconstitutional. To commemorate the occasion, the Kansas Humanities Council partnered with NPR's StoryCorps project to interview area residents about growing up in Topeka, the town so closely associated with the case. In today's fifth installment of our local StoryCorps series, we hear from Topeka resident Joyce Revely (REEVE-lee) who talks to her son's best friend, Eric McHenry, about going to school in Topeka before -- and after -- desegregation.
That's Joyce Revely (REEVE-lee) of Topeka. She and Eric McHenry took part in a StoryCorps project last year, marking the 60th anniversary of Brown v. Board. KPR has been sharing several of these conversations taped in Topeka. You'll find more of them on our website.
