A sunken tank, off the coast of Normandy, France. (Photo from PBS's NOVA documentary "D-Day's Sunken Secrets.") The 70th anniversary of the D-Day invasion is just days away. A new documentary, featuring a University of Kansas professor, takes a look what was left behind... during the massive land, sea and air battle.
That's KU History Professor Adrian Lewis, author of the book, "Omaha Beach: A Flawed Victory." Lewis is featured in the PBS documentary "D-Day's Sunken Secrets," which airs tonight (WED) on PBS. It's estimated that hundreds, perhaps thousands, of tanks, Jeeps and other vehicles were sunk while crossing the English Channel.
The NOVA documentary airs tonight (WED) at 8 on PBS.
