PLAINVILLE, Kan. (AP) — Just when she needed it most, a northwest Kansas woman who lost her home to a fire won the lottery prize of her dreams: a VIP race weekend at Kansas Speedway. KAYS-AM reports Shelly Anderson's two-story home near Plainville burned down earlier this week. On yesterday (FRI), Anderson learned she had won a VIP Racing Experience prize package in a Kansas Lottery drawing.

School Bus Crashes Near Wichita
HAYSVILLE, Kan. (AP) — A school bus was involved in a crash near the Wichita suburb of Haysville, leaving the lone student on board with minor injuries. KWCH-TV reports the accident happened yesterday morning (FRI) when the bus from the Mulvane district was hit by another vehicle. The student was treated at the scene. The bus driver was cited for failing to yield the right of way.

Python on Loose in Parsons
PARSONS, Kan. (AP) — Police in a southeast Kansas community are asking the public to be alert for an escaped python. The Parsons Police Department says officers responded late Thursday to a report of a large snake outside a home. The python remained at large yesterday (FRI) afternoon.

KC Awarded $20 Million Grant for Downtown Streetcar
WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded Kansas City a $20 million grant to help build its streetcar route through about two miles of downtown. Voters previously approved a 1-cent sales tax increase and property tax increases to help pay for the streetcars, which will run from the River Market area to Union Station. Plans call for streetcars to start running in 2015.
