Police are investigating reports of credit card fraud affecting customers of at least two Topeka-based banks. CoreFirst Bank & Trust president Kurt Kuta (COOT-uh) says anti-fraud software spotted unusual charges to some customers. He says that triggered staff to look into the issue.
Kuta says that fewer than 500 CoreFirst customers were affected. Fidelity State Bank & Trust has issued new cards to 25 customers who had unverified account activity. Capital City Bank is also checking to see if its customers were affected. The Topeka Capital-Journal reports that investigators are examining the computer transaction records of a Topeka bar called the Lazy Toad in connection with the incidents.
