Homelessness is on the rise in Topeka, according to the head of the city’s Homeless Task Force. G.R. Laughlin (LAWF-lin) says the numbers include more families. He says up to one-third of people at the Topeka Rescue Mission are now children. There has also been an increase in the number of homeless people who are sleeping outdoors.
A public meeting in Topeka this (WED) evening will examine the homelessness problem in the city and ways organizations in the community can work together to combat it. The meeting starts at 5:30 at the City of Topeka’s Holliday Building, located at 620 SE Madison.
