"Read Kansas Read" is a program designed to keep kids reading over the summer, when school's out, and they think they're not learning. But Andy Thompkins, the president and CEO of the Kansas Board of Regents, says the kids only THINK they're not learning...and that reading helps keep students focused.

And educators say that can lead to a loss of knowledge, with students in the fall forgetting information that was gained the previous spring.
