Westar: Small Conservation Measures Can Mean Big Savings

With the recent heat wave, air conditioners throughout the region have been working harder, and people are staying inside to keep cool. That means higher energy bills are likely to show up in area mailboxes soon. Gina Penzig is a spokesperson for Westar Energy. She says that taking some pro-active measures...such as unplugging unnecessary appliances...can help customers save money. She says one common energy-hogging culprit is the spare refrigerator many people keep in the garage.

Penzig says that even when an appliance is turned off, it's often still consuming electricity...so unplugging is a great option for trimming back on energy costs.

Westar: Stealth Energy Hogs Can Cost Consumers

It turns out that you may be paying EVEN MORE for cable television than you might have thought. Gina Penzig is a spokesperson for Westar Energy.

Penzig says older, big-screen television sets...and that refrigerator that might be running in the garage...are big culprits as well. She says that to conserve where you can to help reduce summer cooling bills, unplugging those large types of items when they're not in use is a good way to cut down on energy consumption.
