Washburn University is celebrating its Founders Day today (WED). Amanda Hughes is a spokeswoman for the school:
Hughes says what we now know as Washburn University began as Lincoln College. Congregationalist Church deacon and Worcester, Massachusetts resident Ichabod Washburn made a 25 thousand dollar donation back in 1868, saving the school from financial ruin...and the board renamed the school, and its athletic teams, for him.
