Obama Formally Declares Snow Disaster Areas

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — President Barack Obama has formally declared a major disaster from the February snowstorms in Kansas. The designation makes federal funding available to supplement state and local recovery efforts. It covers the period from February 20th to 23rd.

Brownback Wraps Up Higher Ed Tour

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — Governor Sam Brownback has asked the Kansas higher education system deserves to avoid cuts in state funding. Brownback has used a statewide tour to highlight the importance of higher education. He also campaigned for his proposal to keep funding for the schools at current levels in the budget year that starts July 1.

Turnpike CEO Announces Retirement

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — The president and CEO of the Kansas Turnpike Authority will retire in June. He says a new law imposing administrative changes was only a "fairly minor" factor. He said he'd already been contemplating retirement before legislation designating the governor's transportation secretary as the turnpike's director of operations became law.
