Four Killed in Separate Highway Accidents

TOPEKA, Kan. (KPR/KSNT/KWCH) - Two people were killed in a head-on car crash on Interstate 35 in Geary County Saturday.  KSNT reports that Kansas Highway Patrol records show 34-year-old John Wagnaar III of Manhattan was driving a pickup truck the wrong direction on I-35 when he collided with a car driven by 31-year-old Morgan Taylor of Colorado Springs, Colorado. KWCH reports that two people were changing a tire on a ramp off Interstate 135 in north Wichita when they were struck and killed by a impaired driver.  26-year-old Travis Mock has been charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter while under the influence in connection with the deaths of 20-year-old Christian Evans of Elk City and 18-year-old Emily Stein of Wichita. 


KC Pediatrician Pleads Guilty to Medicare Fraud

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KC Star/KPR) - A Kansas City pediatrician has pleaded guilty to Medicare fraud.  The Kansas City Star reports that 57-year-old Frederick Dattel of Leawood owns and operates Kansas City Pediatrics, and worked for telemedicine company RediDoc in 2017 and 2018.  Federal prosecutors say Dr. Dattel pleaded guilty this week to submitting more than 1,000 fraudulent claims, and that he was part of a nationwide Medicare scheme by telemedicine companies.  Dattel has been ordered to pay $211,542 in restitution and faces up to five years in prison.  His sentencing date has not yet been set.


Tainted Cheese Recalled at Four Kansas Grocery Stores

TOPEKA, Kan. (KSNT/KPR) - The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has added four more Kansas grocery stores in Kansas to a recent cheese recall. KSNT reports that the FDA added four Kansas Dillon's stores to a list of grocery stores that received bulk Brie and Cambembert cheese from Old Europe Cheese, which was voluntarily recalled due to a possible contamination of Listeria.  The bulk cheese was sold at Dillon's stores in Lawrence, Topeka, Andover, and Hays.  A list of products recalled is available at
