Education advocates wrapped up a 60-mile walk today (MON) at the Kansas Statehouse. Eleven people completed the trek from the Kansas City area to Topeka to focus attention on public school funding. Lauren Van Wagoner from Hoyt says she made the trip because she has a six-year-old daughter with autism.
“Since my daughter’s in special education, I often see how thin the resources are for those kids, and I’m concerned those resources are going to continue to get thinner,” says Van Wagoner.
This is the third year people have made the walk to the Kansas Statehouse hoping to grab the attention of lawmakers and voters. The organization Game On for Kansas Schools helped organize the event. That group is against the block grant bill recently passed by lawmakers and instead wants the state to increase funding for education.
