Are the "Streets of Laredo" Really in Kansas?

"Home on the Range," "Happy Trails" and "Ghost Riders in the Sky." Those are just a few of many famous cowboy songs. "Home on the Range," the official state song of Kansas, was written in Smith County, Kansas in the 1870s -- but it's not the only cowboy song with a Kansas connection. Commentator Rex Buchanan recently read about another one.

Commenator Rex Buchanan is a regular contributor to Kansas Public Radio. He's also the Interim Director for the Kansas Geological Survey at the University of Kansas and co-author of the book "Roadside Kansas."

Emporia State University English Professor Jim Hoy's new book is called "Cowboy's Lament." It's available from Texas Tech University Press.
