1863 Commemoration Opens with Pulitzer Prize-Winner

This year marks the 150th anniversary of one of the most defining moments in the history of Lawrence. " 1863 Commemorate Lawrence" is a year-long series of lectures and events to remember Quantrill's raid and the sacking of Lawrence. As part of that commeration, Pulitzer Prize-winning author Tony Horwitz is speaking tonight (THURS) at Lawrence's historic Liberty Hall.

Horwitz's latest book is  Midnight Rising: John Brown and the Raid that Sparked the Civil War. He'll be speaking with University of Kansas history professor Jonathan Earle, also an author and expert on John Brown and the Civil War. This event is sponsored by the Lawrence Public Library Foundation.
