President Obama Arrives in Northeast Kansas

President Barack Obama is delivering a speech at the University of Kansas in Lawrence today (THUR). He arrived in Lawrence Wednesday night after landing at Forbes Field in Topeka aboard Air Force One shortly after 7:30 pm. The president was greeted on the tarmac by Governor Sam Brownback and Topeka Mayor Larry Wolgast.  Mayor Wolgast said the president seemed pleased to be back in the state. Obama’s mother and maternal grandparents were Kansas natives.

Obama had a short conversation with Brownback and Wolgast about the Kansas Jayhawk’s men’s basketball team before his motorcade left for Lawrence.  He is expected to discuss some of the issues he outlined in his State of the Union address Tuesday night when he speaks at KU’s Anschutz Sports Pavilion.
