May the 4th Be With You! - May 4, 2018

Q: Actor Mark Hamill, who played Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars movies, was recently asked on Twitter where he has never been but wants to go. His one word answer was "Kansas." Hamill didn't elaborate. But since this news first broke, the governor, KDOT, a Kansas highway patrolman and others have encouraged the Jedi warrior to visit. Another Star Wars actor already makes routine business trips to Kansas. Name the Star Wars actor who gets his aircraft regularly serviced in Wichita.

     (Hint: Who knew Wichita performed service work on the Millennium Falcon?)

===========================================================

A: Harrison Ford (who played Han Solo in the Star Wars movies)

According to an article in The Wichita Eagle, filming for the "Star Wars" movies has taken actors all over the world. Portions of the desert planet Tatooine were filmed in Tunisia. The ice planet Hoth was filmed in Norway. Planet Crait, where Luke Skywalker fought Kylo Ren on a salt flat, was filmed in Bolivia. But where does the actor who plays Skywalker want to visit?

Mark Hamill was recently asked on Twitter where he has never been but wants to go. His one-word answer: Kansas. Kansas Governor Jeff Colyer suggested Hamill visit on May 4, which some call Star Wars Day for the wordplay on "May the Force be with you." ("May the 4th be with you." Get it?) State Trooper Ben Gardner tweeted that he would let Hamill drive his patrol car, adding later that he only lets Jedi warriors drive it. The Kansas Department of Transportation, with a gif of the Joker taking a bow, said it's not a joke that Hamill would experience "some cool things" if he comes to the state.

Hamill also voiced the Joker in multiple animated Batman TV series. Hamill may enjoy the state's sunsets, as Luke Skywalker was a sunset-watcher in at least two of the movies. Hamill did not explain on Twitter why he chose Kansas. If Hamill were to visit Kansas, he wouldn't be the first "Star Wars" actor to do so. Harrison Ford, who played Han Solo, regularly visits Wichita to have his airplane serviced. He's been spotted several times at various Wichita restaurants. No word on whether he's ever had the Millennium Falcon serviced in Wichita but we like to think so.
