KPaRt - Charles Ray

The latest in featured KPaRtists is Charles Ray, who uses different types of oxidation on two-dimensional surfaces for a refreshing alternative to common practices of creating artwork.

From Ray's Artist Statement:

"These works of art are not paintings. They are created using the natural formation of oxidation. The list of techniques that can be applied to this medium is unlimited. The procedure helps to fulfill a need to find use in the useless. That of which is generally cast away or removed, I find in it an aesthetic quality.

The natural process of rusting in itself contains metaphoric references on so many levels. The organic images formed by the oxidation are symbols of a subliminal nature that can represent numerous ideas... feelings of change, or need for order, focus, love, hate, or balance. Each viewer must interpret their own experience of the artwork, as the experience of life, in general, is specific to the individual."

His work is on display in the KPR Gallery through the end of February. Like his work? Charles Ray may be contacted by email.
