Kansas City, MO — Pinnacle Winds, Kansas City’s professional concert band, presents Art of the Winds on Sunday, February 15, at 2:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of First Church of the Nazarene, located at 11811 State Line Road, Kansas City, MO.

This dynamic program celebrates both the collective artistry of the wind band and the individual excellence of its musicians. Audiences will experience a rich and varied repertoire that highlights expressive depth, technical brilliance, and the unique colors of the wind ensemble.

At the heart of the program is Sinfonietta by Ingolf Dahl, a cornerstone of the wind band repertoire and a masterwork of twentieth-century composition, admired for its clarity, intensity, and architectural elegance. Additional selections include Marche Militaire Française by Camille Saint-Saëns, Molly on the Shore by Percy Grainger, Radiant Joy by Steven Bryant, and A Hymn for Peace by Kevin Day—each offering a distinct musical voice and perspective.

A special highlight of the concert will feature Pinnacle Winds’ principal saxophonist, Tre Wherry, performing Sonata for Alto Saxophone by Robert Muczynski, presented in a recent transcription for wind band. This powerful and expressive work showcases both virtuosic solo writing and the vibrant partnership between soloist and ensemble.
Art of the Winds marks the twenty-third concert presented by Pinnacle Winds since its founding in 2021, continuing the ensemble’s mission to enrich the Kansas City arts community through high-level performances and engaging programming.
Preparations are also underway for the remainder of Pinnacle Winds’ sixth season, which will include five additional concerts featuring outstanding concert band repertoire and guest performers.
