LAWRENCE – Kansas Public Radio will carry President Obama’s speech on Thursday live from the University of Kansas’ Anschutz Sports Pavilion. KPR’s J. Schafer and KCUR-FM’s Steve Kraske will anchor the coverage, which will begin shortly after 11 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 22.

President Obama is scheduled to begin his remarks about 11:20 a.m. and is expected to speak for about 25 to 35 minutes.

Listeners can hear the speech on streaming audio at http://bit.ly/15b4ZEc.

“This is a historic opportunity for KPR. We’ve never carried a presidential speech from our ‘back yard’,” Schafer said. “We’ve carried events with former Presidents Carter, Clinton and George H.W. Bush from KU and President George W. Bush when he spoke in Topeka.”

KPR is offering its live feed to other public radio station in Kansas. KPR’s Stephen Koranda will be covering the event for KPR and its affiliates.
