“Elvira, Mistress of the Dark” is really an actress named Cassandra Peterson. She was born in 1951 in Manhattan and spent some of her early years growing up in Randolph, Kan. Before becoming the spooky hostess of late night horror films, she worked as a go-go dancer and a Las Vegas showgirl.
