Remembering Calder Pickett, Peabody-Winning Broadcaster

Photo by Mike Yoder/Lawrence Journal-WorldRetired University of Kansas journalism professor Calder Pickett has died. Pickett was the host of the long-running program "The American Past," here on Kansas Public Radio. Pickett wrote and produced the show from 1973 to 2005. He won a prestigious Peabody Award for the program back in 1973. In an interview last year, Pickett recalled getting the news that his program has earned a Peabody.

Pickett died this week at the age of 92. He created more than 15-hundred episodes of "The American Past" in his 32 years on the air at Kansas Public Radio. Excerpts from several of those shows will be featured this weekend, on the next KPR Presents. Join us at 8 o'clock Sunday evening here on KPR.
