On Wednesday, University of Kansas faculty and students attended an informational session about the implementation of "campus carry," the legislation that will allow concealed firearms to be carried on all public college campuses this summer. One of many KU faculty members against the idea is Ron Barrett-Gonzalez, a professor of aerospace engineering.
Committees in the Kansas House and Senate have already rejected legislation that would have allowed universities to continue banning firearms. But that fight may not be over. Those who want to keep the ban in place are still hoping to bring the issue up for debate as an amendment to another bill. Campus carry is scheduled to go into effect this July.
