Headquarters Counseling Center in Lawrence is trying to raise $90,000 to keep its doors and phone lines open.

The Headquarters Counseling Center in Lawrence is a leader in suicide prevention. It's also struggling to survive. Headquarters is one of the operators of the National Suicide Prevention hotline, taking more than 20,000 calls every year. But Headquarters is facing a financial crisis that may force the center to close by the end of the year. In response, the agency has launched a fundraising effort called SAVE HQ - or, on social media... #saveHQ. KPR's J. Schafer spoke to the executive director of Headquarters, Andy Brown, to learn more about the counseling center and its fundraising campaign.

Headquarters is trying to raise $90,000 by next Monday (December 5) and still needs about $40,000 to meet that goal.
