The classic Hollywood detective movie of the 1940s and 50s has a distinct visual and thematic style...dark shadows, lots of intrigue, tough talk and cultural paranoia. This weekend, some of the best of the film noir genre will get a showcase in downtown Kansas City, drawing on the expertise of a well-known film noir expert. Film critic Eric Melin explains.

Eric Melin is a film and media critic for KPR and the website He spoke with Noir City Film Festival creator Eddie Muller. The Noir City Kansas City Film Festival begins tonight (FRI) at the Alamo Drafthouse Mainstreet in Kansas City. For more information and ticket availability, visit or the Alamo Drafthouse website
