SRS Secretary Supports Drug Tests for Welfare Recipients

SRS Secretary Robert Siedlecki supports testing Kansas welfare recipients for drug use. Testifying before a legislative committee this week, Siedlecki pointed out that the state of Missouri already has a similar law on the books, requiring drug testing for people who receive state assistance. He says drug testing could help people who receive public assistance.

Opponents of the idea say it unfairly singles-out one class of people for testing. In recent years, bills to require drug testing have made progress in the Kansas House but failed in the Senate.
