Australia Rejects Operation Rescue Leader
SYDNEY (AP) _ An American anti-abortion activist is expected to be deported from Australia over alleged concerns that he could incite violence. Troy Newman is president of the Kansas-based anti-abortion group Operation Rescue. He was detained at Melbourne Airport on Thursday after trying to enter Australia even though officials had canceled his visa. Newman denies that he poses a threat to anyone.

Kansas Supreme Court Rejects Request by School Attorneys
TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ Attorneys for Kansas school districts suing the state over its school funding formula have asked the Kansas Supreme Court to lift a stay on a lower court ruling, but the state responded that the lower court failed to properly evaluate the case. The Topeka Capital-Journal reports that a three-judge panel found the state's newly enacted school funding strategy to be unconstitutional. Kansas Attorney General Derek Schmidt responded by asking the Supreme Court for a stay while he pursued an appeal, which the court granted. Attorney Alan Rupe argued the state is refusing to comply with its constitutional obligations. Schmidt called the plaintiff's concerns about education funding, "doomsday hyperbole."

Ruling in Salina Death Appealed
SALINA, Kan. (AP) _ The parents of a 12-year-old Salina girl who died several months after being shocked while playing during a rainstorm say they will appeal a judge's dismissal of their lawsuit against the city. An attorney for Jayden Hicks' parents told the Salina Journal on Friday the family will appeal Judge Bill Elliott's September 23rd summary judgment in favor of the city.

Parents Conduct Vigil in Remembrance of Missing Child
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) _ The parents of a Kansas City baby who disappeared four years ago are holding a prayer vigil at their home to keep the girl's memory alive. The Kansas City Star reports Deborah Bradley and Jeremy Irwin see Saturday night's event as another chance to share Lisa Irwin's story. Irwin and Bradley told police someone came into their home in the early morning and took the girl while Bradley was asleep and Irwin was working. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children released an age-progressed photo of her last year.
