KS Tax Negotiators Reach Compromise, But Agreement May Face Challenges

House negotiators Richard Carlson (left, R-St. Marys) and Nile Dillmore (D-Wichita) during tax talks. (Photo by Stephen Koranda)Negotiators from the House and Senate have reached a compromise on a bill to cut taxes. It would reduce individual income tax rates. It would also reduce and eventually eliminate income taxes for 190,000 businesses in Kansas. The compromise is an alternative to a massive tax-cutting bill awaiting Governor Sam Brownback’s signature. But as KPR’s Stephen Koranda tells us, passage of the compromise isn't a sure thing.
