KDOT: Prepare for Winter Travel, Road Conditions

Christmas weekend is here and millions of people will be hitting the road. This year, AAA expects a record 103 million Americans to travel during the Christmas holiday season. Kim Qualls, with the Kansas Department of Transportation, says drivers should take inventory before they pull out of the driveway, to make sure they have everything needed in case of an emergency.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reminds drivers not to get behind the wheel if they're drunk or stoned. The KHP also wants drivers to remember to buckle-up. According to the patrol, 63 percent of people killed in a traffic accident last year were NOT wearing a seat belt.
