Disease Confirmed for First Time in U.S. Affects Kansas, Other Corn States

Harvest Public Media is a reporting project, focused on food, fuel, farms and other stories affecting the rural Midwest.

Farmers in Kansas, Nebraska and Iowa are now battling a damaging, new corn disease. It's the first time this disease has ever been confirmed in the U.S. But as Harvest Public Media's Grant Gerlock reports, it appears to be spreading in the heart of the Corn Belt.

Officials say the bacterial disease is affecting corn crops in Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, Colorado, Oklahoma, Minnesota, Texas, Illinois and South Dakota.
