It wasn’t long ago when there wasn’t much to celebrate in Emporia. Tyson laid off about 1,500 workers. And, until Twinkies were revived a couple years ago, the Hostess brand treats made in Emporia had gone stale because of the company’s financial troubles. But these days, the wheels are turning once again in Emporia, both figuratively and literally. KPR’s Greg Echlin has more on the Dirty Kanza, a grueling bicycle ride that draws thousands to the city and to the surrounding Flint Hills.
