Bill Would Alter Missouri River Plan

Two Kansas lawmakers have introduced a bill to change the way the Army Corps of Engineers manages the Missouri River. Senator Pat Roberts and Congresswoman Lynn Jenkins introduced the legislation. Roberts says it would require the Army Corps to take more data into account when deciding how much water needs to be released from upstream reservoirs.

Large releases from upstream reservoirs resulted in some of this year's flooding. Elected officials from seven states have come together and formed a task force to look at how the Missouri River is managed. They believe the management plan is outdated and may have worsened flooding this year.
