Banner Creek Observatory Celebrates 16 Years

The center offers classes and seminars all summer.
The center offers classes and seminars all summer.

This year, Banner Creek Observatory and Science Center, near Holton, is celebrating 16 years of operation, giving people in northeast Kansas a closer look at the stars. But the center does much more than scan the skies with its state-of-the art 20 inch telescope. The center is becoming known as a major research facility providing education in astrology, environmental studies, native wildlife, local history and Native American culture coordinated with members of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation. Brenda Culbertson of the non-profit observatory says the center is hosting events open to the public all summer long for people of all ages.

Culbertson says they like to show people what's in the sky, explain it, and help them find it themselves. If the skies are clear this Saturday night, the observatory will host a viewing of Mars.
