Administration Waiting for Federal Reponse to Medicaid Overhaul Plan

Flickr photo by Jimmy EmersonMembers of the Governor's administration are now waiting for a response from the federal government to a proposal to overhaul Medicaid.  Governor Sam Brownback's plan would put Medicaid recipients into managed care programs run by private contractors. The goal is to save money without hurting patient care. Lieutenant Governor Jeff Colyer ("collier") says they believe the proposals will be approved by the federal agency that oversees Medicaid.

But it's not yet clear that the proposal will be approved by the feds. The entire plan, or parts of it, could be blocked. Colyer says they are flexible, so that the plan can be tweaked if parts aren't approved.
