Supporters of medical marijuana are asking Kansas lawmakers to legalize it for treating conditions ranging from cancer to epilepsy.
David Swain is a Vietnam veteran dealing with PTSD. He told lawmakers in a Senate hearing Thursday that he’s tried medical marijuana in other states and it calmed his symptoms without the side effects of other medications.
“Some days I couldn’t move. I felt like a zombie," he said. "I thought there’s got to be a better way.”
The bill would require a physician’s recommendation and the cannabis would have to come from regulated dispensaries.
In the past, critics of legalizing medical marijuana have said it could be a step towards broader legalization.
