Brownback: St. Francis Hospital Should Stay Open

Kansas Governor Sam Brownback says St. Francis Hospital in Topeka shouldn’t close despite its shaky financial footing.

The only known bidder is Prime Healthcare, which also runs Providence Medical Center in Kansas City. Prime is under investigation for allegedly overcharging Medicare for patients’ treatment. The current owner of St. Francis, SCL Health, said earlier this month that it would either sell or close the hospital this summer because it had become financially unsustainable.
