U.S. Senate Committee Sets Date for Hearing on Brownback’s Nomination

Governor Sam Brownback says his hearing for a job in the Trump administration will take place next week.

The president nominated Brownback this summer to be ambassador for international religious freedom. Brownback says there’s a need to tackle the issue, because religious conflicts are at the core of violence throughout the world. He says he’s been preparing for the hearing and he’s ready to step into the role.

“I’ve been getting a number of people reaching out to me about this from various areas and places and it’s been real heartening," says Brownback. "It means there’s a lot of interest and support and a willingness  to really do something."

Brownback isn’t sure how soon the full Senate could vote on his nomination but says he’ll step down as governor once he's confirmed.
