The Legacy of Walter Byers and the World of College Sports

For years, the NCAA has been under fire for running a system that generates hundreds of millions of dollars for universities and TV networks - but not for college athletes themselves. The man who helped build that system is Walter Byers. At one time, he was arguably the most powerful figure in college sports. Under his leadership, the NCAA became the centerpiece of the multi-million dollar industry that college sports is today. Byers later spoke out against the very system he helped create. These days, he lives quietly on a ranch in Pottawatomie County. And as KPR's Greg Echlin tells us, Walter Byers has largely become a silent bystander in the battle over college sports.
