KS to Use National Fire Investigation System

(Flickr Photo by Gregory Jordan)Fire investigators in Kansas will start using a new tool to help investigate arson and other crimes. The Bomb Arson Tracking System, known as BATS, will make it simpler for investigators in Kansas to share information on a nationwide basis. It will help officials identify trends and streamline investigations into explosions and serial arson cases. State Fire Marshal Doug Jorgensen says the switch will be a significant improvement.

Some fire departments in Kansas are already using BATS. The state fire marshal will start using it later this year, and all certified fire investigators in the state will transition to the system.
