Conversations: KU Theatre & Dance Season Preview

On this edition of Conversations, Henry Bial, Chair of the Department of Theatre and Dance at KU, and Katherine Pryor, Director of Theatre, join us to talk about the upcoming season of performances. Conversations: Celka Straughn and Joey Orr, "knowledges" exhibit at Spencer Museum of Art

On this edition of Conversations, I talk with Celka Straughn, the Andrew W. Mellon Director of Public Practice, Education and Research, and Joey Orr, the Andrew W. Mellon Curator for Research, at the Spencer Museum of Art, on the KU campus in Lawrence. We discuss the Integrated Arts Research Initiative, the upcoming "knowledges" exhibit, and related events taking place at the museum.


Conversations: Leonard "Kris" Krishtalka on Current and Future Novels

On this edition of Conversations, I'll talk with Leonard “Kris” Krishtalka. You may know him as the Director of KU’s Biodiversity Institute, but did you know he is an author of both fiction and non-fiction? He joins us to talk about his series of novels featuring the Private Investigator Harry Przewalski and a historical fiction novel based on a murder case in 1871 Lawrence.


Conversations: Missy Koonce, Kansas Repertory Theatre presents "La Cage aux Folles"

On this edition of Conversations, Missy Koonce joins us to talk about the Kansas Repertory Theater production of La Cage aux Folles. Koonce is directing the production, which opens on July 13 at the Crafton-Preyer Theatre in Murphy Hall on the KU campus. She says her version of the musical will be scaled down and a bit more gritty to embrace the honesty of the situation, but don't worry, she's not forsaking the "glam."


Conversations: Steve Goddard, Big Botany @ Spencer Museum of Art

"Big Botany: Conversations with the Plant World" gets underway on March 27th at the Spencer Museum of Art. On this edition of Conversations, Steve Goddard, Associate Director and Senior Curator at the museum, talks about the lectures, exhibits and activities that make up the series. "Big Botany" runs through July 15th.


Conversations: Saralyn Reece Hardy, Spencer Museum of Art's Collection Centennial

The Spencer Museum of Art is celebrating the centennial of its art collection. On this edition of Conversations, I talk with museum director, Saralyn Reece Hardy about the history of the collection, which was gifted to KU in 1917, how the collection has grown, and her crystal ball predictions about how the museum will grow in the future. Conversations: KU's Black Love Symposium - Ayesha Hardison and Randal Maurice Jelks

On the 80th Anniversary of Zora Neale Hurston's novel, Their Eyes Were Watching God, KU will hold a symposium that explores themes of black love in literature, culture and other disciplines. On this edition of Conversations, KU professors Ayesha Hardison and Randal Maurice Jelks join me to talk about the Black Love Symposium which will be held September 11-18 and is open to the public free of charge.
