Description: We will explore the ecosystems of Kansas from long ago and how they changed over time. 80 million years ago Kansas was part of an inland sea, we will see the organisms that lived in that sea and their relationships to each other. We will consider the different ecosystems of Kansas from 190,000 thousand years ago to 11,900 years ago when Kansas was much cooler and covered in tundra for a time and Spruce Forests for a time and then eventually transitioned to the grasslands we find in Kansas today. We will see how some animals adapt to the changes in their environment, how some are able to move when climate changes and how others go extinct. We will explore natural selection to demonstrate how organisms can change over time. The videos debut Thursday, March 4 at 10am CST on our Facebook page & will later be available on the KU Biological Survey’s YouTube channel. Hace 80 millones de años, Kansas era parte de un mar interior, veremos los organismos que vivían en ese mar y sus relaciones entre sí. Consideraremos los diferentes ecosistemas de Kansas desde hace 190.000 mil años hasta hace 11.900 años, cuando Kansas era mucho más frío y estaba cubierto de tundra, luego de bosques de abetos y finalmente hizo la transición a los pastizales que encontramos en Kansas hoy.
