Kansans planning to buy health insurance through the federal marketplace only have a short time left to sign up. Open enrollment ends December 15th. That’s an earlier deadline than some past years.
Molly Moffett is with the Community Health Council of Wyandotte County. She says people signing up need personal and income information for everyone in the household and details of any health coverage an employer might offer.
She warns against waiting until the last minute and then finding out you lack some information.
“If you just forgot, or just put it off and you missed the 15th, you will not be able to sign up again until next year,” she says.
People who have life-changing events, such as losing employer health coverage, can take advantage of special enrollment periods. However, those only apply in limited circumstances.
Moffett says Kansans can find help by dialing 211 to reach the United Way. That group can connect Kansans with people trained to help with health care enrollment.
