In the final days before the election, candidates have been making last-minute campaign stops and airing their final ads of the season. Attention on two congressional districts is driving spending to new heights.
The 2nd and 3rd congressional districts in eastern Kansas have attracted millions of dollars. The Center for Responsive Politics says candidate fundraising and outside spending totals more than $15 million for each seat. That compares to $2 to $6 million in recent elections.
Groups like the Congressional Leadership Fund have spent much of that money on ads that have blanketed eastern Kansas.
Polls show Democrat Paul Davis and Republican Steve Watkins essentially tied in the 2nd District in Eastern Kansas. In the Kansas City area's 3rd District, incumbent Republican Kevin Yoder looks to be trailing Democrat Sharice Davids.
