The Kansas Association of School Boards is outlining some broad goals they say should be included in a new school finance formula. Kansas lawmakers threw out the old formula last year and legislators will work on a new plan next year.
The KASB didn’t offer many specifics, but says a new funding system should provide adequate money and equal opportunity to students, while focusing on accountability so student performance can be measured.
Mark Tallman, with the group, also made the pitch for more education funding.
“The performance we’re getting to the resources we put in suggest that there’s a lot of efficiency in our system. We think we’ve demonstrated that if you provide more resources, school districts will use them effectively and appropriately to keep moving ahead,” says Tallman.
Governor Sam Brownback has asked members of the public to send his office email suggestions on what should be included in a new finance plan.
