(Photo by Stephen Koranda)The top Democrat in the Kansas House is calling for an early end to the 2014 legislative session. Paul Davis, from Lawrence, says the session should end after 70 days, rather than the normal 90 days. He says Kansans have told him they are concerned about issues such as property taxes, job creation and school funding.
Davis is also running for governor against incumbent Republican Sam Brownback. House Speaker Ray Merrick, a Stilwell Republican, says economic issues are going to be an important legislative focus for the remainder of the session. He says there is still work to be done and adjourning before it's finished would not benefit Kansans. Senate President Susan Wagle told the Associated Press that it appears Davis is eager to ramp up his campaigning for governor.
