The Kansas Juvenile Correctional Complex in Topeka. An audit released this month blasted safety and management procedures at the Kansas Juvenile Correctional Complex in Topeka. The report, from the Legislative Division of Post Audit, revealed a series of problems at the facility, which houses around 250 juveniles. One of the auditors, Scott Frank, says the report didn’t just show the potential for problems, it showed documented cases of injuries and other issues.
That’s Scott Frank, with the Legislative Division of Post Audit, speaking with KPR’s Stephen Koranda. Earlier this year, Governor Sam Brownback replaced top staff at the Juvenile Justice Authority. Brownback and leaders at the agency say fixing problems is a high priority. The report also recommends an additional audit in the future to see if problems have been addressed.
